Caving - Alfredo Jahn

Less than an hour from Caracas, near to the towns of Curiepe and Birongo (Miranda State), is the Alfredo Jahn Cave. This cave has a lot of galleries dug into a limestone formation. The “Casupal” and “Cambural” rivers have developed an intricate net of tunnels, which have made this place one of the largest caves among Venezuela’s natural features.

Explored for the first time by members of the Venezuelan Spelunking Association, the Alfredo Jahn Cave has a series of galleries that form an interconnected net of corridors, allowing visitors to enjoy the breathtaking elements of this environment, such as stalagmites and stalactites. The most famous of these formations is a “column” (a union of a stalactite with a stalagmite) named “The Chaguaramo”.

The main attraction of this cave is the fact of the “Casupal River” runs throughout all its galleries, and in some places the water forms beautiful waterfalls and pools, inviting visitors to take a refreshing bath, especially attractive after having traversed the soft mud of some of the cave’s narrower tunnels.

Requirements:

• Be at least 10 years old. In case of being a minor, the parents or legal guardian must authorize the activity.
• Is not necessary to have previous experience.

Duration: One day from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Schedule: We can offer the trip any date you wish, as long as it has at least two participants (subject to our availability). Also, you can view our activities calendar.

Capacity: From 2 to 12 people.

It offers:

• Specialized guides.
• Technical equipment (helmets and face mask).
• Snack (sandwich, fruit and juice).
• First aid kit.

Equipment needed:

• Comfortable sportswear.
• Comfortable sports shoes for walking in the river.
• Resistant pants or shorts (no jeans).
• Change of clothing to use at the end of the activity.
• Swimming suit and towel.
• Flashlight or headlamp (with batteries).
• Water bottle. Insect repellent.
• Camera (waterproof).
• Small backpack.

Transportation: Participants can arrange their own transportation to and from the place where the activity will be held, or they can hire our transportation service.
